About Us
About Us
The Asia Scotland Institute (ASI) is a non-profit organisation which exists to promote a greater understanding of Asia through the sharing of knowledge. We run regular events with global leaders from across Asia, with the aim of stimulating curiosity and fostering an environment to promote the exchange of knowledge.
Our focus is on three main areas: Arts, Culture & Education, Politics & Policy, and Business & Economics, to provide a deep background of knowledge when considering each part of the Asian markets.
Our Mission
Our core mission is to educate and inspire the leaders of tomorrow
The Asia Scotland Institute believe that fostering a deep understanding of Asia’s diverse cultures, economies, and political landscapes is essential for preparing the next generation of global leaders. We are committed to providing unparalleled access to expert insights, educational resources and meaningful cultural exchanges that empower individuals to make informed decisions and drive positive change in a connected world.
History
The Asia Scotland Institute was launched by Roddy Gow OBE in 2012, with the first programme taking place at the Playfair Library at the University of Edinburgh.
The influence of the Scots in different parts of the world has been apparent for many years. Most families have had forebears who have travelled to North America, Africa, or Asia, settled and worked there. Ten years ago, there did not appear to be any organisation addressing this topic and it seemed a compelling reason to start an initiative to focus on Asia in this, the ‘Century of Asia’.
Having made soundings about the viability of the idea, and recently stepping down as Chief Executive of Asia House in London, Roddy convened a reception and made a presentation in the Playfair Library Hall, officially launching the Asia Scotland Institute.
