7. Our Definition of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Diversity encompasses all the differences that make individuals unique, including but not limited to: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, nationality and socio-economic background.
Equity recognises that systemic inequalities exist, and active work is required to remove barriers to participation, opportunity and growth for all individuals, especially those from underrepresented or marginalised communities.
Inclusion is the practice of ensuring that everyone—regardless of background or identity—feels welcomed, respected and supported, thus enabling them to participate fully and meaningfully.

8. Code of Conduct

The Asia Scotland Institute is committed to maintaining a respectful, collaborative and safe space for all. We expect all individuals engaged with ASI to adhere to the following principles:

Respect for all: ASI expects all participants to engage in respectful debate and be open to learning from different cultural and intellectual viewpoints.
Zero tolerance for discrimination or harassment: ASI does not tolerate discrimination, harassment, bullying or any other form of misconduct.
Accountability: Violations of this code must be reported (see section 10) to maintain an inclusive and welcoming environment.

Violations of the Code of Conduct may result in removal from ASI events or platforms, and further appropriate action as determined by ASI leadership.

9. Student Ambassadors

Student Ambassadors are integral to ASI’s mission to shape the leaders of tomorrow. We are committed to cultivating an environment where students from all backgrounds can thrive and take pride in representing the ASI.

ASI expects its Student Ambassadors to:

● Respect and value differing perspectives, fostering open and inclusive dialogue.
● Champion diversity and inclusion on university campuses and in their communities.
● Actively promote equitable access to ASI opportunities and events among underrepresented student groups.
● Engage in cultural exchange with sensitivity and integrity.
● Provide constructive feedback to help improve ASI’s student engagement practices.
● Report any misconduct they witness or experience during ASI activities.

ASI is committed to ensuring that all Student Ambassadors:

● Are represented to reflect a broad range of experiences, backgrounds and educational institutions.
● Feel Valued: Student Ambassadors are treated as respected members of the ASI community. Their time, insights and energy are appreciated and recognised.
Have a Voice: Student Ambassadors have the opportunity to express their ideas and concerns through biannual feedback forms and group meetings and can contribute to event planning and strategic initiatives through ongoing collaboration with ASI leadership.
Grow Professionally: ASI provides leadership opportunities and access to global networks to support the personal and professional development of our Student Ambassadors through programmes such as the student-led ASI Podcast Series, launched in July 2025.
