Join the Asia Scotland Institute and Brodies for a panel discussion exploring how Gen Z is shaping politics, geopolitics and the future of work. Drawing on developments including India’s Cockroach Janta movement, the panel will consider how governments, businesses and other institutions can respond to a generation coming of age amid geopolitical uncertainty and the rapid expansion of AI.

Julie McConnellBusiness Development & Marketing Director at BrodiesJulie McConnell is the Business Development & Marketing Director at Brodies. She brings 18 years of technical legal, commercial, multi-industry, and client-facing BD and marketing experience, both domestically and internationally. Having also practised as a lawyer in Scotland and Australia, Julie has a deep understanding of the global legal market and the needs and expectations of clients across various industries and jurisdictions.
Julie and the team of multidisciplinary BD and marketing experts are responsible for implementing and driving the firm’s ambitious strategic plans, focusing on nurturing client relationships, growth and enhancing the firm’s external reputation.
Prior to joining Brodies, Julie spent over a decade working at a global law firm, where she held both regional and global leadership positions. Her work centred on building and developing opportunities across global industries and practice areas, as well as leading numerous firm-wide strategic initiatives.

Kirsty DouglasDoctoral Researcher at the University of EdinburghKirsty Douglas is a doctoral researcher at the University of Edinburgh, investigating reasons for professional turnover amongst Gen Z and Millennial nurses. Retention policies across the service sector may benefit from this research, with its consideration of generational values and intergenerational value conflict in the workplace.
Kirsty’s background is distinctly anthropological, with degrees in Philosophy, Nursing and Medical Genetics, as well as experience in the UK health sector and EU public health advocacy.
