Maya Xuereb

Maya is pursuing her Master’s at the University of St. Andrews, specializing in Security of the Middle East, Central Asia, and the Caucasus. She is currently interning at the MECACS Institute and is actively involved with both the Russian-speaking and Central Asian societies. Her research has focused on the financial well-being structural barriers faced by Muslim women in Scotland, as well as discrepancies in West-East feminist advocacy.

A recent graduate of the University of Stirling, Maya founded the Women in Business Society, affiliated with the charity Girls Are INvestors (GAIN), and previously led the finance team within the cultural exchange-focused student organization One Stirling. Having grown up in St. Petersburg, Malta, and Prague, Maya’s career ambitions are centered around diplomacy, leading international dialogue and knowledge exchange on humanitarian and political crises and advancing development for communities from aid to agency.
