Biography
Patra ‘Pat’ Jumsai Na Ayudhya is a second-year PhD student in Anglophone Literatures and Cultures at Charles University in Prague. His fondness for Scotland began in 2016 when he spent a year in Stirling as an MSc TESOL student. There he had a chance to travel throughout the country and met so many wonderful people who were from Scottland and all around the world.
After returning to Thailand in 2017, Pat began his career as a lecturer in English language and literature. As Scottish writings were rarely taught and discussed among Thai academia, he started incorporating more Scottish literary works into his classes. In 2023, after years of teaching, he decided to take a study leave to pursue his PhD.
Pat’s dissertation focuses on the city of Edinburgh in literature since 1914. Beyond his primary dissertation, he is also exploring the historical links between Scotland and Siam (Thailand) and working for the Bibliography of Scottish Literature in Translation (BOSLIT) collecting Scottish works that have been translated into Thai. He genuinely wants to bring a wider range of Scottish writing to a Thai audience and sees the Asia Scotland Institute’s student ambassador role as a fantastic opportunity to do that.
