Discover how research into a collection of photographs at Broughton House in 2015 has developed into a partnership with tangible value for students, universities and communities in Sri Lanka.
In this highly illustrated talk, Antonia Laurence Allen will take you through her trip to Sri Lanka in 2023, sponsored by the National Trust for Scotland, NT of Sri Lanka, and the British Council. The focus of the talk is a collection of photographs, brought home from Sri Lanka by the Scottish painter Edward Atkinson Hornel in 1907.
The journey into these images reveals Hornel’s story – how be became a global traveller and why he brought back certain kinds of images – but also illuminates how this archive is being used now, to safeguard the tangible and intangible heritage of Sri Lanka.
